representation through education: breaking down the gatekeeping in headwear
for too long, white men have been the gatekeepers of headwear through the shaping of societal norms, fashion trends, and industry standards. at rosebloom headwear, we believe that fashion should be a celebration of individuality, catering to the unique and diverse needs of every wearer.
our proprietary and patent-pending builds are crafted with a deep understanding of millinery and the headwear industry. with even the most general headwear anatomy education, the hat-curious and hat-furious can appreciate the thoughtful engineering behind our designs to recognize how we’ve addressed these historical gaps in the market.

CALYX and COROLLA – rosebloom’s simplified category sizing system was developed to be inviting for the hat-curious and hat-furious: no measuring, no numbered or lettered sizes to remember, no math conversions.
sizing is based on identifying traits you are already familiar with, such as your hair type or hair texture to allow the hat-curious and hat-furious to dive head-first into representation through headwear. visit the CALYX and COROLLA sizing category system page to learn more.

crown-height hair openings – traditional ponytail hats do not allow for super high, crown-height ponytails, nor do they have openings large enough for textured hair. rosebloom’s crown-height hair openings are a differentiated alternative. with 3 opening styles designed specifically for different hair types and textures, built into headwear styles with materials that support and work with each hair type, the aim perfect fit for you and your style.

industry terms
button / squatchee – the jewel on top of the crown and helps hold all the panels together. it is either metal or plastic and is covered with the fabric used on the cap.
unstructured hat – unstructured hats have no support and have a uniform look and build to the entire crown. this is often referred to as the “dad hat” look.
structured hat – a structured hat is reinforced with buckram in the front two panels so it won’t lose shape when it isn’t being worn, giving it a more crisp look.

panels – these are the pieces of material stitched together to form the body, or crown, of the hat. traditional baseball hats have 6 panels but there are many variations.

eyelets – most caps have 6 embroidered holes, one in each panel to allow for ventilation. but if the cap has mesh back panels, the eyelets are typically left off since the mesh takes on the ventilation role. the eyelets can be sewn or metal.
crown – this refers to the top of the cap. the crown of the cap is made up of panels.

profile – refers to the height and slope of the hat connected to the brim. higher profile hats require structure. lower profile hats are generally paired with curved visors.
low profile: shallow depth, hard slant with maximum of 3” crown with unstructured or light structure front panels
mid-low profile – more rounded crown than the low profile and can be structured or unstructured
high profile – crown height of 4” or more with sharp profile and generally flat visor

taping – taping covers the sewing conjunctions of cap panels on the interior of the hat to make it neat and clean looking and keep the wearer from being bothered by the hanging stitches.
visor – also called bill or brim, visor is the technical term. can be flat, pre-curved or even slightly pre-curved. it is a piece of plastic attached to the front of the crown and is covered with the fabric of choice.

sweatband – band of fabric lining the inside bottom of the crown that touches the head. the sweatband serves multiple purposes. depending on the fabric, the sweatband can make a cap very comfortable and can also help wick moisture away.

closure – the method or mechanism used to secure a conformed fit on the head.
