who is an underrecognized demographic in headwear?

any group that deviates from the conventional or generic headwear sizing standards is an underrecognized headwear demographic. rosebloom has prioritized inclusivity by catering to the most significantly impacted demographics: women and people with textured hair, which includes hair+ fits, women with temporary or permanent hair loss, athletes of diverse variation, and individuals seeking hair protection, style, and functionality from their headwear.

underrepresented or underrecognized demographics? what’s the difference?

though similar, the term “underrecognized” better reflects marginalized groups’ experiences and challenges, whereas the term “underrepresented” leaves the burden of marginalization on the encumbered to solve. emphasizing the importance of acknowledging their unique needs, “underrecognized” invites us to address behaviors. the shift in terminology implies a collective responsibility for socioeconomic change, making the real problem more visible. it urges society to address systemic barriers, with an onus on the discriminators and the systems that both enable and trap rather than putting the responsibility of change on the marginalized to overcome alone.

what is a hair+ fit? why not just say they have a big head?

the hair+ fit is taking the head size, head shape, hair type and texture into account as distinct and unique measurements when building a hat. a person’s hair is a beautiful, changeable, and identity-defining feature. traditional headwear simply covers hair. rosebloom aims to protect your hair with supportive features and provide styles to showcase your hair as part of you, in the style you choose.

is the female skull structure so different from a man’s that the hat structure needed changed? the hats look the same to me!

absolutely. the structural changes in rosebloom headwear styles are tailored to accommodate the unique contours of the female skull, offering a more comfortable and secure fit compared to styles that have been designed for men for 175 years. while the hats may appear similar externally, as they should, our designs consider the distinctive, anatomical differences in women’s skull structures for a more inclusive and enjoyable wearing experience.

the above 3D model details the anatomical differences in the female skull structure, top, and male skull structure, bottom. in terms in millinery and restructuring headwear for the female skull structure, there are several key differentiators that would cause poor fit for women.

structure and build

female: smaller, slimmer, rounded at top

male: larger, wider, more square

forehead

female: vertical with pronounced front eminences

male: slightly sloped or receding with pronounced glabella and supraorbital ridges, the area between the brow and brow ridges

nuchral crest / occipital bone

female: rounded occiput and shorter cranial mass

male: robust occiput, deeper cranial mass with external occipital protuberance

i’ve seen ponytail hats before. what makes rosebloom different?

rosebloom hat styles are designed for different hair types and hairstyles. and rather than a ponytail hole that sits behind the center line or button/squatchee of the hat, resulting in a slightly higher opening for a ponytail, rosebloom offers multiple crown-height hair openings. each opening is the product of a decade-plus of market research and tailored to the unique needs of the underrepresented headwear community.
